What will be stylish city cars, when electric cars will swarm over megacities? The company Mini tried to answer this question. The concept with the uncomplicated name Electric debuts in Frankfurt in a couple of weeks. By the way, the British have already officially announced that the car will be on sale in 2019.

Despite the conceptuality of the model, it is made in accordance with the usual serial style of the Mini Countryman. For sure, many body elements come from a conventional 3-door hatchback. Although the prototype has a much more streamlined form: it was separately “blown” in the wind tunnel to test the efficiency of other bumpers and a smooth bottom.

10 years ago, the company Mini already demonstrated an electric car – Mini E. It was released in a small edition for various tests and studies in the field of electrical machines. By the way, the experience of working on the Mini E was useful to the BMW concern when creating the electric i3.

According to some reports, the Mini electric car will be a serial version of the Mini Rocketman concept car. That is, it will be very compact – only 3.2 m in length. The car, most likely, will borrow powertrain from BMW i3.

As for the new Mini Electric, there is not a single word about the technical stuffing of the car. It is expected that the prototype will be driven by a 150-horsepower engine with 250 Nm of the torque.

Representatives of the BMW Group claim that the Mini electric car will become one of the key models of the brand. It plans to produce it in significant quantities and in the future, the Mini electric car will have its own line.

This year BMW intends to sell about 100,000 electrified cars, which is 4.2% of the total volume of demand, and by 2025 the share of hybrids and electric vehicles will grow to 15-25%.

There is no information on release date and price.
